Came for July 4th weekend and had reservations they neglected, waited another hour while they seated people who came after us. Fed up we left for another place. No system to seat people and no ETA on when you'll be seated. Save your time and go elsewhere.

Heading back to Texas from New Orleans, we made a stop here for lunch. Thank GAWD we did because we hit wretched traffic on the I-10 afterwards and luckily had been fortified for the long trip back! Found this place because of yelp especially the review by Ed U. I shared the fried Seafood Platter which had stuffed shrimp, stuffed crab, catfish, shrimp and oysters with the fried frog leg added in. Didn't care for the stuffed shrimp or crab but the rest of the platter was pretty tasty. And they have really good fries; crispy on the outside but soft in the middle. The rest of the table enjoyed the shrimp and crab gumbo with rice, the crawfish po-boy, more fried shrimp and catfish and the boudin balls. Sadly the two things that really drew us to this place weren't available. They didn't have any alligator or boiled crawfish in stock. The latter was scheduled to be in later in the day. C'est la vie. Guess we'll just have to make a trip back to Louisiana.

I ended up here due to Yelp reviews. This was one of those rare times where it was not a discovery of an awesome new place. Don't worry Yelp, I still love you. I had the Boudin balls, fried alligator, and fried okra. After that much fried food with dipping sauces, my body cried out for me to give only two stars, but my mind knew what I was getting myself into, so I will go with three. For me, the service was spotty, even though the servers were affable. My fried gator pieces were pretty small with lots of batter, so it was more like a Fried gator Tootsie Pop, except I could get to the center quicker; I would not recommend them unless you are a big fan off fried batter. The okra was OK, but I am not sure how amazing ride okra can really get; that said, I have had better fried okra. The Boudin balls were interesting and tasty; I would get them if I came back and I recommend that you try them if you visit. I am still uncertain if they deserve more stars, so if I do come back, I will endeavor to try different dishes, ideally less fried stuff.

We passed this place up the first time. If you didn't know exactly were it was, you would do the same! Our waitress didnt have much of a personality, but she did the job. The food was okay, but the frog legs are the best!

Not fancy but the food was great. Service was fast and efficient. Mostly fried stuff on the menu but everything we ordered was awesome. Next time we visit lake Charles this is a must stop.

Amazing boiled crab! The half order is plenty unless you are a crab pro. The gumbo is alright but nothing special to any other gumbo. I really recommend this place to anyone looking for some quality seafood at good prices!

I've lived in Louisiana my entire life and I have to say this is the best seafood gumbo I've ever had! Also, their fried fish is cooked to absolute perfection. The staff is always super friendly.! 5 stars!!!

Went to seafood palace for lunch with my husband... Ordered the fried fish and a crawfish pistolette... Fish was not that great, and pistolette was not good at all... I had been craving crabs and ordered some fried crabs.... I waited until much later to eat them... Almost immediately, as I ate the very good tasting fried crabs, I started vomiting and having the worst stomach cramps... After asking a few people in the restaurant industry, they confirmed that most seafood restaurants and establishments bleach their crabs to preserve them and apparently they didn't rinse the crabs out entirely and wow did I suffer for that.... I was sick for a couple days... I will NEVER eat there again.... If you happen to ignore my advice about going, just don't order the fried crabs!!!!

15 minutes to get served drinks in re washed styrofoam cups , another 15 listening to the server complain about tips.As we walked out owners not concerned with guest leaving all of a sudden

We ate at Seafood Palace for the first time in several months. You have to get there early to be seated right away. My husband had the shrimp and crab gumbo, which was excellent. I had the fried tails, Crawfish, that is. They were hot and delicious. Yes, they serve drinks in Styrofoam cups, but we love the food and the fact that the attire is totally come-as-you-are. In a place where you may be eating boiled crawfish or boiled crabs, you don't want to dress up.

  • Zella S.

Loved this awesome local seafood place... When you see that many cars in the parking lot you know you picked well. 3 of us split the crawfish and boiled shrimp. Most table of locals all had platters of crawfish but I think I need to build up to that! Started with boudin balls to share, so good. Best part was when we were leaving and I stopped to take some pictures out back where they boil the crawfish. The guy was so excited to show me everything. Just capped off a true local experience!! So fun!

We wanted to like this place, however the lack of our server ever coming back to take our order - we never ate here. She was too busy talking to another table about how she only makes $2.30 an hour and has to live on her tips, and how she makes sure to zero out credit cards when they leave her no tip ... Etc. we waited 15 minutes for her to come back and she never did. The restaurant itself looks like a family owned/operated joint, which is what we were looking for. To bad we never had a chance to try the food. I'm not sure if it's because we are an interracial couple, but we were totally blown off. Very unhappy and would NEVER recommend here.

My cousins recommended this place so we had to stop by. They kept telling me to get the Seafood Platter (which is fried), but I just couldn't do it that day. I wanted crawfish; had to have it. We ordered a few pounds of that & I had a bowl of the shrimp & crab gumbo. The gumbo & crawfish were good. Our waitress was super friendly. I will surely add this to my list of restaurants to visit again. And next time I'll get the seafood platter to go while I eat my crawfish. :)

Heard about this place from a friend in Shreveport. Was down for a conference and had to get a bit of lunch so thought I'd try it out. Got the shrimp poboy cause it's hard to mess that up and it was phenomenal! So many places try to put too big shrimp on the poboy so it won't really close up. These were good sized but not too big. Perfectly delicately fried on soft french bread. Had the fries which were hot and crispy on the outside, soft on the inside. Just the way they ought to be. The beer was ice cold. Decor is very south louisiana informal - very typical of the ma and pa seafood place. Had seafood all over Louisiana and beyond including New Orleans dozens of times. This place truly hit the spot! No need to dress up but if you like good home cooking seafood for a reasonable price, this is your place.

This place has been around for as long as I can remember. I think that have really really great food especially the gumbo, fried crabs, boiled crawfish and snow crab legs. The snow crab legs are seasoned to perfection since they put them in the crawfish seasoning plus they come with corn and potatoes. And for $19 the snow crabs are a steal. The problem is staffing. While the waitresses are nice they are always understaffed. It's nothing for them to just take your order and then they vanish and you're left sitting at the table an hour later trying to remember what your server looked like so you can describe to the next over worked server. They really should do something about this because I know the waitresses are missing out on tips. Great food but horrible service

  • N. C.

Visited here on the recommendation of several friends. Service was prompt, cheerful and attentive. The food was adequate, but not particularly distinctive. Portion sizes struck me as a little small for the price, but I often feel that way in regards to seafood. All in all, not bad, but not exceptional.

  • Julie A.

Great food. We got a large fish and shrimp platter to split. It was plenty of food. It came with a salad and fries and half a slice of buttered Texas toast. Our friends got the gumbo (chicken and sausage and shrimp and crab) and two small shrimp platters (one fried and one grilled). They had the fried crab, which you must try. This place is so good, there was a wait with hardly nowhere to park. That should tell you enough right there.

    (5)
  • Jesus R.

You barely know it's there as it is lifeless from the outside. Once inside you know you're in for a treat. This is one of those places where the frills are all inside the food. Instead of ordering plates (didn't care for fries), I suggested to my son that we sample everything. Alligator, Boudin Balls, Crab Cakes, Shrimp Pistollete, Frog Legs, Fried Shrimp and a couple of other items that I can't pronounce or spell. It's not cheap but it is a twice as good as any Chillis or Charley's or Outback or any other could-be-anywhere chain. I wanted to feel like I was in Lake Charles, not San Antonio, Texas.

  • Dave O.

Three reasons to eat here boiled blue crabs, boiled crawfish and gumbo that will get them a solid 3 star everyday of the week. The fourth star is for their longevity they have alway done things right I've been eating here for years and years this is the go to place for crab. There is really no reason to get the sides they will just fill you up and it would be wrong if you can't finish the seafood start with the gumbo then go for the crabs or crawfish you'll be happy I promise. It don't get better than this in this town.

    (4)
  • Darrell M.

The food was great, although a little bland, but I guess that happens when you fry everything in the same grease. The atmosphere was pretty good. There is plenty of seating, especially for large groups in the back. The waitresses and hostesses are pleasant and nice. I had the fried crawfish tails and the serving was very generous for the small/half serving. Bring your appetite, because there will be quite a bit of food on your plate. There is a small parking lot, and it is a very popular place, so go early! (Extra parking around on the side.)

  • Maurice B.

I was looking forward to some good local flavor. This wasn't it. The only fish they had was catfish, the gumbo was the worst I have ever had. I better stop here before I say something too derogatory.

If you like fried seafood or fried anything, this is a good bet in Lake Charles. We tried this place after it was reccomended by a local. The regular chicken and sausage gumbo is pretty good. The seafood gumbo was nasty. Stuffed shrimp was very tasty. Fried shrimp were pretty good. For overall good cajun seafood, Steamboat Bills is still better in my opinion.

    (3)
  • KKbangz G.

Awww mang!! It was a tie between Steamboat Bills & this place. The steamboat didn't have any blue crabs so we rolled on down to the Seafood Palace and I am sooooo happy that we did. The blue crabs are huge! They are seriously seasoned & boiled to the muthafkn perfection!! Nice flavor with a kick of spice to it, aww mang! Gonna make it a necessary trip each time I head to LA. I didn't really try anything else, but they do have BBQ or was it fried crab? Whatever it was, them hoes look delicious too! We watched an old man handle the biz on his own dozen of boiled crabs, while the old lady handled her biz on them fried crabs. I was like gawwwd damn! Her plate did look really good tho. My bf did order the boiled shrimp. Compared to the boiled shrimps I have had at Asian owned Cajun places, the Asians win. SF Palace could provide larger shrimps and give it a bit more flavor though, I thought it was bland. If I wanted to eat shrimps in cocktail sauce, I can do that at home. I don't think I would try any other food here except for them crabs. Oh they had crawfish but I didn't get to try them since they didn't sell them by the lb & we we had plans on a crawfish buffet the next day anyways, so pointless. I knew they were not going to be cooked the way that I am use to, so I didn't care for the crawfish too much. But we will try them on our next trip though. If you love blue crabs, they know how to fkn make them! You see my profile pic? Yes, that is the face I make when I think of them crabs.

  • Missi T.

I was not impressed with the food. While my husband ordered boiled shrimp, they were unappealing and very Tough to peel! They brought him a second plate after making them aware, that they were over cooked! It was them same as the first. That's why I haven't been there in 20 yrs.

  • Alicia H.

Leanne was a fantastic server and she talked us through all our questions and made suggestions. Our table got fried Gator, frog legs, oysters, crawfish tails, and catfish. Great place, just don't try and come on a Friday night during Lent! And it's great for tourists to try some Louisiana cooking.

  • Rae M.

We had to wait a little before we were seated, but after we were it was great. Lots of people but not to loud and the waitress was very nice. We had the fried gator as an appetizer and I got the snow crab legs. They give you large portions also! Lots and lots of fried food. So if you're on a diet this place is not for you.

    (5)
  • Jeff L.

No frills seafood joint. Great owner who is usually there. It can get crowded because the food is good, especially the boiled crab and crawfish. the gumbo is pretty tasty too. They do have a lot of fried stuff, but their boiled stuff is what brings me in.

This place! Oh my god, you guys. If you're looking this up and you're in the LC area, stop reading and just go in. I'm serious. I almost didn't, and I would have kicked myself if I'd missed out on what I had the other day. Just spent a day in the area and really wanted some of that Louisiana seafood, so I found this one on Yelp and took off. I almost missed this place because of its plain exterior and random location parked on the end of a strip center, it's a little tricky to find if you're not looking for it. The Food: Boudin balls did not disappoint. Two large balls, lightly dressed in a light cornmeal batter, and lightly fried to crisp perfection on the outside and soft, tasty boudin on the inside. They were served with some ranch dressing, which somehow did not go together, to me. They disappeared in record time. Ordered the fried crab based on reviews here- HEADS UP, the HALF order will still get you a whopping SIX WHOLE CRABS. This is insane to me, and a super value if you're a starvin' marvin. They were hot and fresh and delicious, with more of the same light, cornmeal batter that kept the meat flavorful and light despite the enormous quantity. BF is in love with crawfish and ordered "the smallest" order of them available: FOUR POUNDS. We almost decided against it, but waitress insisted the order wasn't really that large since the weight accounts for the whole size of the crawdad, not the tiny edible portion. She insisted that she'd eaten an entire portion of them "in about ten minutes" and was still so hungry she ate an additional seafood platter. Her insight made us think it wasn't that big of a deal and we'd have a good amount of food without going overboard. Long story short, we were wrong and she seriously must be a competitive eater- the dish of crawfish we got was easily the side of a trashcan lid and contained likely 100 fish. It blew my mind and there's no way in hell this girl ate that much, let alone in 10 minutes. Between the two of us, BF and I were unable to finish the order (and we're big eaters) despite finding the food thoroughly delicious- the crawfish were hot and fresh, served with thousand island and butter sauce, and came apart so easily. It's nearing the end of the season, and they were mostly good and large. Customer service throughout our visit was stellar- waitress was constantly checking on us, refilling drinks, clearing away trash, and asking if we needed anything else. As we left, their night shift was coming in and it looked like they had a bunch of servers- seems this place gets pretty popular at night, so I'd suggest planning ahead or going early like we did. If you don't go anywhere else in LC, go here- you will not regret it!

First time here and I must say it is the best place for boiled crabs. The crabs were the largest blue crabs I've ever seen and were cooked perfect. Wait staff and owner very friendly and looking forward to my next visit.

Best food and best service! As someone from the Midwest traveling to the Gulf, I did not expect too much hospitality from a homegrown location. I was completely wrong. The staff not only immediately recognized we were from out of town, but went out of their way to make us feel welcome. The waitress showed us how to crack whole crab and made great recommendations from the menu. Leaving the place we were stopped by someone going in who asked us if it was a great place. I left them a better review than I am leaving here as I spoke with them in person. Great place to go. The gumbo was the best thing on the menu (chicken and sausage). Best thing on the menu.

Well, we were midway through our day-long road trip from New Orleans to Houston when we realized that gumbo and po' boys would soon be part of our culinary rear view mirror with pork ribs and armadillo eggs dead ahead in another couple of hundred miles. Lake Charles seemed to be an appropriate last stop in Louisiana, and the Seafood Palace gravitated to the top of the Yelp list for a dining destination. Granted there were only four reviews, Jamie W. and I threw whatever caution there was to the wind and decided to drive down Enterprise Blvd. to give it a try. The exterior is relatively nondescript, looking like a generic carpet warehouse that just held a fire sale. Inside is a large two-section dining room with vivid red walls and tablecloths, black-and-white checkerboard floors, and craft-fair decorations like dog paintings. The waitresses are genuinely friendly, and the menu is exactly what we were looking for. Jamie had his last Shrimp Po' Boy ($9.95) of the trip - stuffed with deep-fried shrimp and accompanied by a big pile of fries (see photo). He was happy. Me not as much. I actually wanted the $11.95 Oyster Po' Boy, but they were out, so I went for the $9.95 Crab Po' Boy (see photo). I probably should have known they'd be crab patties, but the consistency was so wet that I didn't find it that satisfying. What made up for it was their $4.95 Cup of Crab & Shrimp Gumbo, simply executed with the dark roux in one bowl and the rice in the other (see photo). Very flavorful and savory stuff. We shared a $2.25 order of Fried Okra (see photo) and treated it almost like popcorn when we dipped it in the ranch dressing. I never did try the Boudin balls even with the temptation of pork in them, but alas that can wait for my next trip through Cajun country. By the way, this is one popular place even on a Wednesday with both young families and rich matrons coming in here for their fried gator and crab claws. It's definitely a Sunday-eatin' kinda place...and they have their own Facebook page! FOOD - 4 stars...get your gumbo on, avoid the limp crab patties AMBIANCE - 3 stars...nothing fancy SERVICE - 4 stars...friendly hospitality, y'all TOTAL - 4 stars...definitely a worthwhile stop on I-10 between NOLA and South Texas

Got seafood platter. Very underwhelming, unless you like fries. One stuffed crab, one stuffed shrimp, couple clams and shrimp then two no flavor fish. The salad was poor ,great fries but at least service was awesome.

  • Brian L.

Some of the best seafood you'll ever have and they offer authentic Louisiana cooking. Big portions so you will always leave with a full belly. I live in NJ but make it a point to stop here every time I take trip down to Lake Charles.

The best hole in the wall when it comes to seafood in SWLA! If you want a seat, (on Fridays) go early (when you're not hungry), and you'll get a spot when you become hungry! Parking is terrible, but that what makes the whole experience so worth it! Anything seafood is just decadent!

  • Love F.

I like the food here but don't like all the msg they put in their fried seafood. It gives my husband a migraine every time he has msg. Their gumbo is really good and I like their boiled crabs.

My last meal on Earth? Fried crabs from Seafood Palace. I've been a regular here since I was a little girl. Nothing on the menu is bad - I'm partial to the pistolettes and fried and/or boiled crabs. Service is top notch. Why 4 stars? They've gotten SO expensive recently!! I guess the secret is out!

    (4)
  • Jeremy T.

This place was not good. In Lake Charles on business felt like some seafood. Recommended on Yelp pretty highly so there I go. You can tell I live around New Orleans because everything was bland. Had the seafood platter. Fish bland, shrimp bland, and fried okra bland. Bland bland bland!! Would not return next time I'm in town. Salt people!! Great service and meal came out quick however hence the 2 stars.

this was a nice find thanks to yelp for some northerners driving from houston to lafayette around dinner. place was full of locals on a monday night around 7. no prob getting a table. best boudin balls we had in all of LA everything else was tasty too, recommend it

High quality food and good service. Nothing fancy but a decent place.

  • Sergio S.

Seafood Palace earns its royal name by dishing out some mean Cajun food. The Boudin balls are off the hook--packed full of flavorful depth that will warm your soul. The boiled crabs are delicious. If you're having trouble like we were, there are experts on site to help show you how to crack open those tough exteriors. Looks like the locals hang out here, which adds to the awesomeness of the place. Definitely worth a little detour off i-10 if you are just passing through.

Ate here with a friend and had a great experience. The seafood was great. we had the blue crabs for one and they were huge and VERY tasty. The seafood gumbo was pretty decent as well. The staff are plentiful and helpfull and even spoke to the owner. He seems to be a very friendly genuine guy. Next time I am back this way I will be stopping back in here for sure.

  • Steve E.

Oh me, oh my. Dat's some good fried seafood. I love to go out and find a place like this. Try the little crawfish pies for an appetizer. We shared fish, shrimp, oysters, frog legs & stuffed crab. Nothing to complain about with any of that. I will say that a hushpuppy or 6 would have been delightful, but that wasn't my main focus. Neither was the bowl of iceberg lettuce that passed for a salad. Saw some folks tearing up some boiled crawfish, but this early in the season, they are too small for me to tackle. You can actually starve to death peeling those mudbugs. We'll be back when they get up to medium-size!

I had the crawfish and it wasn't the best I've ever had.

Steamboat Bill's was out of crawfish when we called them on our way through LA on the way to Houston. They recommended Seafood Palace; they knew they had crawfish. So plugged the address in the GPS and soon pulled in the parking lot that looked almost full. Walked in and after a few minutes wait we were seated. The place was full and almost all of the tables had crawfish trays on them. The air was filled with heady aromas of boiling spices. Friendly waitress came by, took our order of a bowl of seafood gumbo, boudin balls and what ended up with 2 pounds of crawfish. Everything was excellent! Gumbo had a dark roux seasoned just right, the balls were good and the crawfish, although on the small side, were spicy and hot with potato and corn.

  • Jesse G.

First off I looked for a spot that served gator! First place that pops up was Steamboat Bill's well rated it was. I decided to try the little guys. So seafood palace it was! Driving up the outside was not very appealing. Didn't look like much. Upon opening the door we were greeted delightfully. Service was fast, friendly and food was delicious. Definitely give service an A+, food an A+, friendliness A++, facility B+ old but well maintained!!! I will definitely be back! Try the gator and Gumbo shrimp and crab. A++++ place! Keep it up guys!!!

Really sweet staff, very good food - shrimp and crab gumbo very good with some kick, really awesome boiled shrimp, good boiled crab (but I'm a bit lazy for all that work), good house merlot, the crab pistolette was good too but a bit to deep fried for my taste. Great place for relaxing and eating a lot of good food with a group of friends.

Ok if you like all fried everything fried. Not for me.

The alligator meat was cut so small that all you could taste was the flower on it. I wanted bigger slices and the portion was very little for $9. The crawfish was not taste steam boat bill is 10 times better. The crawfish had no spice and no taste. Plus you could only order 4 pounds or something and it came with no corn or potato.

  • Andy M.

Seafood here is really good. Made fresh to order - had the Gumbo and Stuffed Crabs and was as good as any Seafood Restaurant in the area. Service was excellent. . . there was seven of us and everyones order was correct and never had to ask for a refill. Will always stop here when in the area.

So me and my family eat here a lot. We eat here as often as we can. The staff is always helpful and friendly. The food is always great. This is the best place in town to go for crawfish.

  • Tim M.

Extremely fresh boiled crabs and crawfish. They ran out of po-boy bread so they gave me two po-boys on Texas toast. No vegetarian entrees. Attentive service, hole-in-the-wall decorum.
